 Families at the event were provided information about the different coverage options available to them and given a brief Nutrition Education & Obesity Prevention presentation. 

 H&R Block tax representatives were also on site educating families on the impact that the Affordable Healthcare Act could have on their taxes. This included familiarizing families with the tax penalty for being uninsured.

 “It’s very important to provide families with as much clarification as possible in this process. We want them to be well informed about their options and what will suit their needs,” said Beverly Earl, Catholic Charities Director of Family & Community Services in San Bernardino County. “Families need to know what they’re enrolling in and what the law means.”

 The enrollment period for Covered California ends February 15.

 Of the 48 families that attended the event, Catholic Charities with the help of Community Action Partnership of San Bernardino, was able to provide utility assistance for electricity and gas to 31 families in need.

 Newly-elected 40th District State Assemblyman Marc Steinorth attended the event and praised Catholic Charites along with Dignity Health’s Community Hospital of San Bernardino and St. Bernardine Medical Center for their dedication to ensuring the health and well-being of the community of San Bernardino.
