Due to numerous COVID-19 cases and exposures amid its staff, St. Francis de Sales School in Riverside temporarily closed in-person activities from Aug. 20 to Aug. 29. Classes had started on Aug. 16 and reopened on Aug. 30. A total of five school days were missed.

“The school was closed out of an abundance of caution and the desire to keep the community safe,” said Austin Conley, Director of Advancement for Catholic Schools. The school was deep cleaned during the closure.

In a letter to St. Francis de Sales families, Superintendent Samuel Torres urged the school community to be vigilant in monitoring any symptoms to keep everyone as safe as possible.

“We thank you for your understanding and diligence during this time, as we all continue to work together to ensure the health and safety of our Catholic school community. May God continue to bless our families as we unite in creating a safe environment for all,” wrote Dr. Torres in the letter.
