He had been in decling health for some time, hospitalized on many occasions, yet still regaining sufficient energy to continue his priestly service.
He is survived by his only sibling, Anna Palfreyman of Texas and her family.
Fr. Marx was born to Nicholas and Elizabeth Marx on July 11, 1940 in Evanston, Illinois. He was baptized in St. Jerome Church, Chicago.
Upon arriving in California, he attended elementary school in Needles, Barstow and Hinkley and attended Barstow Union High School graduating in 1958.
He answered the call to the priesthood and attended St. Francis Minor Seminary and Immaculate Heart Seminary in San Diego.
He was ordained for the Diocese of San Diego on May 19, 1966 in St. Joseph Cathedral, San Diego by the Most Reverend Francis J. Furey, Bishop of San Diego.
Fr. Marx’s first assignment was at St. Rita Parish, San Diego. He had served at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, St. Rose of Lima Parish and Holy Spirit Parish, San Diego, Sacred Heart Parish, Coronado and St. Catherine of Siena Parish, Rialto.
With the establishment of the Diocese of San Bernardino in 1978, Fr. Marx was incardinated into the new diocese serving as pastor of St. Anthony Parish, San Jacinto from 1979 to 1985.
He was Vicar Forane for the Hemet Vicariate from 1981 to 1985 and pastor of St. Francis de Sales Parish, Riverside from 1985 to 1997.
Fr. Marx was appointed pastor of San Secondo d’Asti Parish, Guasti in 1997.
Funeral Mass was celebrated by Bishop Gerald Barnes on April 23 with the Rite of Christian Burial at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Cemetery in Colton.
Bishop Barnes has appointed Very Reverend Benedict Nwachukwu-Udaku, VF, as Interim Administrator of San Secondo Parish. He will not say Mass but will oversee the pastoral and administrative operations of the parish community. Several priest will be providing supply assistance for the Masses and services at the parish.
