Currently, the MFI offers two programs: the six-month basic Parish Ministry Formation Program (PMFP) which all parish ministers are expected to complete, and a three-year advanced Coordinator of Ministries Formation Program (CMFP) for coordinators of ministry and those discerning a call to the Permanent Diaconate.
This new program will serve as a bridge between the basic and advanced courses. The “Introduction to CMFP” is an eight-week program and will consist of short courses in philosophy, scripture, systematic theology, Christian anthropology, and theological reflection and discernment. In each course, participants will also work on developing skills in reading comprehension, oral and written communication, and the use of technology.
The goal of the program is to equip parish ministers and emerging parish leaders with the tools they need to both discern God’s call to ministry and to understand more deeply the theological and spiritual tradition of the Catholic Church.
The program will consist of one all-day session on Saturday, May 13, and then seven classes held on Tuesday evenings at the Diocesan Pastoral Center throughout the rest of May and June. The courses will be taught in English and Spanish.
Those who have completed the PMFP, including their specialization, are invited to consider enrolling in this new “Introduction to CMFP.” They should meet with their pastor to discern with him how this program might be of benefit to their ministry and the mission of their parish. Those who are interested in the advanced CMFP program must complete the “Introduction to CMFP” first.
