During One Life LA we will demonstrate our unity with the mystical body of Christ where no one is a stranger, understanding that “Christ is our Hope, in every Season of Life.” This event is an opportunity to demonstrate that we are people of faith and reason and challenge a poverty of mind that promotes personal freedom at the cost of another person’s life.

The walk will begin at 12 noon at La Placita/Olvera Street in Los Angeles and end at the Los Angeles State Historic Park where there will be music, food and featured speakers. The program concludes with a beautiful Requiem Mass for the Unborn at 5 p.m. at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels.

Lynne De la Torre, a media professional and lifelong Catholic reflects on her experience of One Life LA.

“A group of us from St. Mary’s in Fontana, gathered at the Fontana Metro Station around 6 a.m. with signs and warm clothes to wait for the train headed to Union Station. I couldn’t believe there were so many other people from all over the Inland Empire who were heading in the same direction. Many began to pray the Rosary while others talked about their excitement and past experiences. Upon arriving you could see hundreds of people, including priests, religious, seminarians, young adults, and laity. I recognized many parishes from our very own Diocese holding up large banners. The excitement and joy was palpable and contagious as we walked the streets of LA. I was happy to be there, among fellow Catholics, standing up for life. I was no longer defending life only in my prayers, but with my hands, my feet, and my voice.”

De La Torre said the Requiem Mass provides a powerful closing to the day.

“There was a moment when candles lit were brought to the altar and we heard the statistics of the number of unborn lives taken every single day,” she recalls. “The church went silent, a silence followed by tears shed for the unborn. In reflection, I thought of how one of those many candles could have been me, and I prayed for our Mother Mary’s intercession in a special way so that we, her children here on earth, could win this fight for the dignity of life.“
