The National Association of Pastoral Musicians (NPM) is coming to the Inland Empire!
Bishop Alberto Rojas has officially blessed the endeavor to begin the application process of creating a local NPM chapter. NPM was founded in 1965 by Father Virgil Funk as a response to the recently concluded Second Vatican Council. There has been a recent growing interest in establishing NPM chapters in Southern California starting in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles a few years ago and more recently, last June, when the Diocese of Orange created a chapter.
The Diocese of San Bernardino is hosting an information Zoom session on Wednesday, Aug. 18 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for any musicians, liturgists, catechists and clergy interested in learning how to get involved in this nationally recognized association dedicated to the preservation and promotion of musical liturgy.
Along with developing a network of pastoral musicians within the Diocese in-person and virtually, NPM can offer an array of resources which include: podcasts, lunchtime concert series, a digital newsletter, a cantor newsletter and the Pastoral Music Magazine. Depending on your membership type, NPM can also offer eligibility to apply for certificate programs and scholarships and discounted rates for NPM events, including their annual national conventions.
