To mark the occasion of his 80th birthday year, Bishop Emeritus Gerald Barnes led a pilgrimage of “Gratitude to Guadalupe” in Mexico from Aug. 17-23. While on the spiritual and cultural journey through Mexico, the delegation visited the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the tomb of Blessed Miguel Pro, the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Assumption of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary into Heaven, Pyramids of Theotihuacan, the Baptismal Font of Juan Diego and other sites. During the pilgrimage, Bishop Barnes had the honor of presiding at Masses at the Shrine of Our Lady of Ocotlan on Aug. 19 and at Our Lady of the Rosary, Queen of the Universe on Aug. 18. Among the 42 pilgrims joining Bishop Barnes was Father Arinze Ezeoke, Parochial Vicar at Christ the Redeemer Church, Grand Terrace, and Director of Community Life at St. Junipero Serra House of Formation. He concelebrated the Masses and delivered an inspiring homily to the pilgrims.
