GOD’S ELECT Catechumens sign their names in the Book of the Elect at this year's Rite of Election for the Riverside Vicariate This year, there are 288 catechumens in the Diocese (154 in Riverside County parishes, 134 in San Bernardino County parishes).
On March 5 and 6, the Diocese held its annual Rite of Election for its catechumens, those who have gone through the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) program at their own parishes and are to be admitted into the Church this Easter.
After a Liturgy of the Word and a homily from Bishop Rojas, the catechumens signed the Book of the Elect as a symbol of their commitment. Now that they have celebrated the Rite of Election, they are known as the “Elect,” as they have been elected by God to enter the Church.
There were two separate liturgies, one for each vicariate. The Riverside Vicariate’s was on March 5 at Queen of Angels, Riverside, and the San Bernardino Vicariate’s was on March 6 at St. Frances X. Cabrini, Yucaipa.
For the parishes of Riverside County there are 154 catechumens this year; for the parishes of San Bernardino County there are 134 catechumens. Parishes were invited to share the names of their catechumens. At press time the following names had been submitted:
