COACHELLA—The Diocese will celebrate the opening of the latest new house of worship on Dec. 7 when Bishop Gerald Barnes dedicates the church at Our Lady of Soledad Parish in Coachella.

During the 12 noon Dedication Mass Bishop Barnes will consecrate the altar and the building as they are anointed with Sacred Chrism. A reception will be held in the parish immediately following the Mass. The new church is located at 52980 Harrison Street in the City of Coachella.

The dedication of the new church will cap a 16-year journey of the parish to build a new worship space. The current parish church was built in 1971 and seats 600. Our Lady of Soledad has conducted a fundraising campaign, received contributions from neighboring Catholic communities, and received a loan from the Diocese to secure the $6.4 million needed to build the church.

The new 19,000 square foot church sits on just under 10 acres of property and has a seating capacity of 1,200. Our Lady of Soledad is one of the bigger parishes in the Diocese, with 8,442 registered families. It currently has two Saturday evening Masses and five Sunday Masses.
