RANCHO CUCAMONGA—The Catholic school principals, teachers and staff celebrated their annual Opening Schools Mass on Aug. 24 at Sacred Heart Church in Rancho Cucamonga, an event that also provides an opportunity to acknowledge those with many years of service in the ministry.
At the conclusion of the Mass those with 25, 30 and 40 years of service in the Catholic schools received a pin and special recognition from those in attendance. This year’s honorees were Sister Kathleen Cleary, O.S.F., of St. Margaret Mary School (40 years), Redlands Sacred Heart Academy Principal Angela Williams (30 years), Rancho Cucamonga Sacred Heart School teacher Karen Salabaj (30 years), Teashia Lopez of St. Adelaide School (30 years), Lois Tompkins and Mickey Hull of St. Margaret Mary School (both 30 years), St. Edward School teacher Linda Driffil (25 years), St. Hyacinth Academy teacher Mary Harr (25 years), Joan Bethke of Our Lady of Lourdes School (25 years) and Aquinas High School teacher Rebecca Forbush (25 years).
Father Benedict Nwachukwu, chief celebrant of the Mass, commissioned each of the school employees and offered prayers for the coming school year. After Mass, Father David Andel gave a talk entitled “Work Without Faith is Death,” offering guidelines for recognizing and avoiding workplace sins.
