The diocese’s only Catholic cemetery marked 20 years of existence on May 5 with a Mass at All Souls Memorial Chapel and Mausoleum. Bishop Alberto Rojas was the chief celebrant and he was joined by Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus Rutilio del Riego and Bishop Emeritus Gerald Barnes, who gave the homily. “This has become the resting place for so many of our loved ones,” Bishop Barnes said. “It’s also a place of prayer.” Since its consecration in the City of Colton on May 5, 2005, Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Cemetery has served as the place burial for more than 7,000 faithful Catholics.

Every year, Our Lady Queen of Peace Cemetery celebrates a special Mother’s Day Mass at All Souls Chapel. This year, the Mass was celebrated on May 10 by Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus Rutilio del Riego. Parishioners were invited to bring a framed photo of their mothers that have gone before us and place them near the altar for a special blessing. In addition to receiving a blessing, the mothers present at the Mass were given beautiful roses to recognize them in a special way. The month of May is dedicated to Mary, Mother of Jesus and it provides an opportunity to pray for mothers while honoring and seeking the intercession of Our Blessed Mother.
