Father Anthony Dao, Ed.D., a retired diocesan priest, has published a new book, “Is Jesus Still Among Us? A Pastoral Guide to Encountering Christ in Today’s World.”
In his book, Fr. Dao invites readers to rediscover the living presence of Jesus Christ today. Beginning with the fundamental questions of faith - Who is God? Who is Jesus Christ? What does it mean to say that “God is Love”? He explores how God’s love is revealed in Christ and continues to transform lives. Inspired by the vision of Pope John Paul II and enriched by Pope Francis’s emphasis on mercy and accompaniment, Fr. Dao’s book combines theological reflection with practical pastoral guidance.
Fr. Dao provided the diocese 18 years of faithful service and formally served at Our Lady of Lourdes, Montclair, from 2006-2012; Our Lady of Hope, San Bernardino, from 2012-2014; and St. Catherine of Alexandria, Temecula, from 2014-2024. At the national level, he served as Director of the Pastoral Care Office at the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. Fr. Dao is also a former Vicar Forane for the Hemet Vicariate. He holds a master’s degree in Theology from the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology in Berkeley, California, and a doctoral degree in Education from the University of Houston, Texas. Bishop Alberto Rojas approved his petition for retirement in June of 2024.
“Dear friends, in this book, Fr. Anthony Dao presents a theologically grounded pastoral resource for the evangelization of all peoples and of all times,” Bishop Rojas wrote in a review. “Using the scriptures, the doctrine and the tradition of the Church, he takes us into a path of profound thinking, meditation and theological reflection, leading us to an examination of conscience based on the Gospel values Jesus taught us. Fr. Dao’s reflections in this work will help anyone who takes Christ Jesus seriously, move beyond the ‘knowing’ about Jesus to the ‘living’ in God’s love by putting faith into action daily.”
