Returning after a four-year hiatus, the Diocesan Red Mass honoring judges, attorneys, paralegals and all those in the legal profession was celebrated on October 7 at St. Francis de Sales Church in Riverside. Before the Mass began, the names of local legal professionals who have passed away since October 2022 were read and received prayers. It was a beautiful liturgy presided by Bishop Alberto Rojas who told the legal professionals in his homily “your work is not just a secular profession; it is a vital participation in God’s own ordering of peoples and the universe.” As in past diocesan Red Masses Rabbi Emeritus Hillel Cohn was an honored guest and proclaimed the first reading in Hebrew. “As we celebrate this Eucharist, we celebrate it for you sisters and brothers who work in those places where justice is debated, and we appreciate every one of you, we thank you,” Bishop Rojas said.
