Every year, Tom Davis leads elaborate Bible Study classes at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Ontario, however, this year, in honor of the 2025 Jubilee Year, he decided to coordinate a special “Jesus and the Jubilee: The Biblical Roots of the Year of God’s Favor” Bible Study class. The class includes watching videos of biblical scholar, John Bergsma, explaining the roots of the Jubilee, showing how this “year of favor” was established in order to preserve freedom, family, and the fullness of God’s blessings for the ancient Israelites.
“I am so happy that we have this class on the Jubilee,” shared parishioner Mary H. “I am a lifelong Catholic and I do not have any recollection of hearing about the Jubilee before. Hearing that this tradition started in the Old Testament is amazing and I am so happy to have the opportunity to learn more about it.”
“I look forward to Wednesday morning Bible Study classes and learning about Jesus and Jubilee as written by John Bergsma,” added parishioner Mary L.
The class is attended by many happy parishioners who continue to sign up for other Bible Study classes by Tom Davis.
“For the last two-and-a half years my husband and I have been attending Bible study class offered by our leader, Tom Davis, who has a wealth of knowledge,” added married couple Larry and Maria R. “It has been a great eye-opening experience for us both.”
The video series highlights the Old Testament origins of a jubilee year and its themes.
“I am discovering it’s rich scriptural meaning especially how it entails the themes of forgiveness of debt, freedom from affliction, family reunification, and its promise of full restoration with God for believers,” parishioner Angie C. shared about the class. “I hope to encounter the Church’s proclamation of Jubilee 2025 “the Year of God’s Favor” in a more thoughtful and memorable way.”
The attendees highly recommend other faithful to learn more about this educational series.
“I want to say that both my wife and I are enjoying the series “Jesus and the Jubilee by John Bergsma,” shared married couple Jim and Pat R. “We are learning new things that are helping us understand why we, as Catholics, celebrate The Jubilee. We would encourage all Catholics to attend this series and learn more about our faith.”
