A rich tradition for the Salvadoran community within the Diocese of San Bernardino is the celebration of the Divine Savior of the World and this year, Bishop Alberto Rojas joined the community to celebrate the Mass on Aug. 3 at San Salvador Church in Colton. The Mass began with the traditional opening procession with icons representing the Divine Savior of the World, Our Lady of Peace, and the Martyr, St. Oscar A. Romero. The Mass was concelebrated by San Salvador pastor, Father Moises Henriquez, who is Salvadoran, Father Bryant Rivas, who has Salvadoran roots, Father Oliver Marco Machan, who is the Parochial Vicar of neighboring Immaculate Conception Church in Colton, and Vicar General, Monsignor Gerard M. Lopez. The day is celebrated to praise the Divine Savior of the World, which gave the country of El Salvador its name.
