The new year will begin auspiciously for St. Mary Parish in Fontana when Bishop Alberto Rojas dedicates its new house of worship on the afternoon of January 1. The new 18,000 square foot church building, located at 16550 Jurupa Avenue, began construction following an October 2022 groundbreaking. Bishop Rojas joined about 200 members of the parish community for the ceremony that day and he will celebrate with them again. The 4 pm dedication will include Bishop Rojas blessing the church doors, the tabernacle, baptismal font and presider’s chair, blessing the church walls with chrism oil and consecrating the altar. The ceremony also includes the bishop receiving the keys to the church, architectural design and certificate of occupancy. The new church seats 1,200 people and will allow the existing multipurpose building being used for Mass to be modified into a parish hall and 10 rooms for ministry meetings and catechism classes.
