L-R: Oscar Gonzalez, Calila Grijalva, Minh Lai and Veronika Theresia Romero

Bishop Alberto Rojas has announced this year’s class of Bishop’s scholars. The Bishop’s Scholarship is a merit-based four-year (renewable) award given annually to four eighth-grade students matriculating from a Parish Partner School within the local clusters to Aquinas High School, San Bernardino; Notre Dame High School, Riverside; Xavier College Preparatory High School, Palm Desert; and St. Jeanne de Lestonnac High School, Temecula.

Oscar Gonzalez of St. Jeanne de Lestonnac School, Temecula will attend St. Jeanne de Lestonnac High School; Calila Grijalva of St. George School, Ontario, will attend Aquinas High School; Minh Lai of Our Lady of Perpetual Help School, Riverside, will attend Notre Dame High School; and Veronika Theresia Romero of Our Lady of Perpetual Help School, Indio, will attend Xavier College Preparatory High School.

Applicants are asked to describe and discuss their commitment to God, faith, education, family, community and volunteerism and explain why they wish to attend the particular high school they have chosen.

In addition to letters of recommendation, certificates of achievement and awards, applicants are expected to create a personal essay, written, video or multimedia. Students also had to complete two rounds of interviews: the first with a panel of five people, and the second individually with Bishop Rojas. We congratulate the four students who were awarded and wish them well in their future academic journeys.
