The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) and the Catholic Church dedicate the month of May to Mary, the mother of Jesus. This tradition, also known as the “Month of Mary,” is a time for Catholics to celebrate and honor Mary through prayer, especially the Rosary, and to seek her intercession. During May, most churches and Catholic schools in the diocese participate in various Marian devotions, including the beautiful May Crowning. In Catholic schools the May Crowning includes students processing into Mass with a crown of flowers that is brought up to a statue of Mary and then placed on her head. Catholic schools in the diocese such as St. Theresa School in Palm Springs (LEFT) celebrated Mary through prayer, songs, and beautiful floral tributes for the May Crowning. Holy Rosary Academy and Preschool in San Bernardino (RIGHT) celebrated a special May Crowning Mass, where students presented a crown of roses as well as flowers at Mary’s feet, a beautiful way to honor our Blessed Mother.
