At the state competition, there were 1,030 participants from 423 schools.  There were 22 categories in the junior division.  Nicholas competed in the category of Materials Science, comprised of 29 sixth through eighth graders.  He was the only sixth grader who placed in his category, earning third place.  In addition he was nominated to compete nationally at the 2014 Broadcom MASTERS.

In the last 10 years this is the furthest St. Edward has placed in the State Science Fair. Nicholas is a highly motivated student and maintains a 4.0 GPA.  The St. Edward School community is delighted to celebrate in his accomplishments and proud to say he is a soaring Eagle. He attributes his success to family support from his parents Dan and Leslie Perez and his Uncle Henry Modregon.
