Every February, the fourth grade students at St. Joseph School in Upland are assigned to write a report and give a presentation on a historical person of their choice. The person they choose is one who has made a difference in the lives of others. Presentations have included personalities such as Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, General George Patton and Amelia Earhart. For the assignment, students are required to read a biography and use the Internet to find additional information, and then write a report. On “Historical Person Day” students come to school dressed-up as their historical person and give their presentations to classes throughout the school as well as to their parents. Their goal is to teach others about these inspirational people in our history.

SAN JACINTO—Saint Hyacinth Academy hosted its first ever Fine Arts Night on January 28 as part of Catholic Schools Week.

Each class had its own wall on which the student art was mounted for all to enjoy with a brief description of the lessons taught. The posters made by every student in the school for a Diocesan Poster Contest were hung on the walls of the hall, along with a special section displaying the winners of St. Hyacinth’s contest to determine whose posters were sent on to the Diocese. The Choir put on a wonderful performance, singing songs of praise to God from our Motion Makers group.
