To start the new year, the Diocesan Office of Divine Worship welcomed two new Associate Directors, Luis Chavez and John Koss to the ministry.

Luis Chavez

Chavez is one of the Diocese’s newest members who is joining the Office of Worship as one of the associate directors of liturgy. He formerly taught theology, philosophy, and history in Catholic High schools in various southern California Dioceses. He has a Bachelor of Arts with majors in both philosophy and theology and a master’s degree in philosophy from Holy Apostles College and Seminary. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife Annette and four children Callista, Louis, Agnes, and Antonia. Some of his other favorite hobbies include reading, writing, spending time with friends and watching movies. “I consider working at the Pastoral Center one of God’s greatest blessings in my life,” Chavez said.

John Koss

Koss is also joining the Office of Worship as an associate director. He has served in parish communities throughout the dioceses of San Bernardino, San Diego, and the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Koss has an extensive background in Liturgy and Catechesis – with a bachelor’s in theological studies from Loyola Marymount University and several associate degrees in various disciplines through Mount San Antonio College. He is a Master Catechist, Diocesan Facilitator, and nationally certified Lay Ecclesial Minister. Koss has served and continues to serve on various Diocesan Committees and is a liturgical musician. “I am excited and looking forward to serving my brothers and sisters in this beautiful role of accompaniment as we continue to journey together in Synodality, as the Body of Christ,” Koss said.
