For the second consecutive year Bishop Alberto Rojas will honor organizations that support local ministries of the Church at the annual Bishop’s Dinner fundraiser on May 25.

This year the Amar Es Entregarse Award will be bestowed upon two groups who support the social concerns ministries of the Diocese. Building Resilient Communities is a San Bernardino County-based non-profit that specializes in partnering with faith organizations to provide disaster-preparedness training and resources, particularly to vulnerable and underserved populations. The group’s Chief Executive Officer, Debra Williams, will be highlighted and accept on behalf of Building Resilient Communities, which has partnered with the Diocese to hold Ark of Safety events at the Diocesan Pastoral Center since 2013.

Also to receive the Amar Es Entregarse Award this year is Training Occupational Development Educating Communities (TODEC), a Riverside County-based non-profit organization that serves local immigrant communities. TODEC was an instrumental partner of the Diocese during the COVID-19 pandemic, providing assistance to parish food pantries and coordinating COVID testing and vaccination clinic at local churches. TODEC Executive Director Luz Gallegos will be highlighted.

Now in its 23rd year, the Bishop’s Dinner will again take place at the J.W. Marriot Desert Springs Resort and Spa in Palm Desert. Proceeds from the dinner benefit the diocesan seminarian program. The theme of this year’s dinner is “The Fabulous 50’s,” which will celebrate the style and music of that prosperous post-war decade.
