“This is an opportunity to learn from Mary and to be a closer disciple of Christ,” said Jose Luis Elias, director of the Ministry Formation Institute (MFI). “As a church we are offered the opportunity to renew our commitment of serving Jesus. This is a blessing for the individual and the diocese.”

The English presenter will be Father Felix Just, S.J, director of Biblical Education at the Loyola Institute for Spirituality in Orange. Fr. Just did his doctoral studies of the New Testament in the Department of Religious Studies at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut.

Presenting in Spanish will be Father Javier Hernandez, O.S.M., director of the Marian Center for the Friar Servants of Mary in Mexico City. Fr. Hernandez obtained his Master’s in Theology and Doctorate in Mariology at the Marianum University in Rome.

“We hope the participants will not only be motivated by [Mary’s] example of faith, but also to commit to the new evangelization of the Church as she was committed to the Gospel of Jesus,” Elias said.

Since the diocese does not have Catholic colleges or schools of theology within its boundaries, the MFI offers the Theological Symposium for Catholic faithful to take part in quality theological study.

The symposium begins at 8:30 a.m. and concludes at 4:30 p.m. Registration is $15 per person. Lunch is not included. To register, contact Ana Maria Cruz at (909) 475-5375 or by email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. Registration deadline is April 19.
