Congratulations to diocesan seminarian Anthony Gutierrez who achieved a milestone in his journey to the priesthood on March 14 when he received the Rite of Acolyte at St. John’s Seminary in Camarillo. The role of the Acolyte is to assist the deacon and priest at the altar during Mass, specifically setting up the altar, and distributing Holy Communion, among other duties. A seminarian must have at least five years of formation and already have received the titles of Candidate and Lector in order to receive the Rite of Acolyte. Fellow seminarians Earl Reyes, Christopher Rodriguez, Ruben Chavarria and Isaiah Valenzuela made the trip with Anthony to show their support. Fresno Bishop Joseph V. Brennan presided over the Mass. Congratulations Anthony!
