Since Vatican II, many lay men and women have been called to the ministry of Spiritual Direction, due to the emphasis on the call of the laity. All lay persons are called to holiness, to evangelize, and to proclaim the Gospel, which has increased the need for spiritual direction for the laity.
GRAND TERRACE—Bishop Gerald Barnes and the entire faithful of the Diocese of San Bernardino gather each year to celebrate, and pray with and for, those men and women who spend their energy, time and talents in taking care of our health needs and wellness.
SAN BERNARDINO—The 150 people who attended the Life, Dignity and Justice Conference at the Diocesan Pastoral Center on September 28 were treated to talks and workshops about everything from the upcoming presidential election to immigration to human trafficking to the death penalty to hate crime trends.

GRAND TERRACE—Bishop Gerald Barnes has accepted 12 men into St. Junipero Serra House of Formation, bringing the grand total of Diocesan seminarians up to 43. The 12 new seminarians and their parish or community are:
ONTARIO—Inspired by the Jubilee Year of Mercy and last year’s Synod on the Family, the 2016 Theology of the Body Congress – an expansive gathering of experts, Church leaders and laity – will focus on how Theology of the Body and mercy play a vital role in how we live out family life.
SAN BERNARDINO—A thick gray plume of smoke could be seen expanding above the ridge and covering the sky over San Bernardino. As reports came in of the rapid spread of the Blue Cut Fire, Catholic Charities and the Diocese of San Bernardino began quietly making preparations.
