With its largest turnout in years, the Nov. 7-9 retreat themed “Reconnect” provided time for fellowship and a study on different forms of prayer.

“We chose ‘reconnect’ because we want the students to reconnect with God. This weekend is all about prayer,” said Father Gary Cappleman, O.P., co-coordinator of the retreat sponsored by St. Andrew Newman Center, Riverside. “The message also is that the Newman Center is for all students.”

The turnout reflected the need for activities geared toward college students and young adults. St. Andrew Newman Center recently renewed its ministry to Riverside City College students at the students’ request.

“I like the sense of community, knowing that we are all here for a common purpose,” said Jennifer Avila, a UCR student.
