During this Easter Season, the diocese mourns the passing of Father John Hindman, a retired priest of the diocese, on April 7 at the age of 78. Ordained to the priesthood on June 21, 1975 in Irwindale, CA, Fr. John’s priestly ministry in the diocese began in 1989 when he was assigned as associate pastor of St. George parish in Ontario. He was incardinated as a diocesan priest in 1992 and would go on to serve as administrator of St. Joseph, Barstow, St. Catherine of Siena, Rialto and St. Frances Xavier Cabrini, Crestline. He served as pastor of Christ the Redeemer, Grand Terrace and St. Joseph, Big Bear, among several other parish assignments. He was granted retirement in 2012 and in those years attended to the needs of his elderly father while also serving as a chaplain of the Apostleship of the Seas. He was laid to rest in the Hindman Family Cemetery at the foot of his father’s grave in Clarion, Pennsylvania on April 25. ‘Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him.’
