In Laudato Si’, Pope Francis writes that “climate change is a global problem with grave implications: environmental, social, economic, political and for the distribution of goods. It represents one of the principal challenges facing humanity in our day.” His words have been commended not only by Catholics and other Christians, but also by Muslim and Jewish religious leaders, scientists, economists and politicians.

The interfaith event will begin with a short video overview of Laudato Si’. Afterwards, each speaker will give a short response to the themes of the encyclical in light of their own religious tradition. The audience will then be invited to ask questions of the panel. In addition to the speakers, there will also be musical presentations from Jewish, Muslim, and Catholic singers.

“Care for our Common Home” will be held at the Diocesan Pastoral Center on February 16. It begins at 7pm and is free to attend. The event is co-sponsored by the Diocese of San Bernardino and the Marrow-McCombs Commission, an organization devoted to strengthening interfaith understanding.
