Deacon Michael Cruz, 63, was called to his eternal rest on May 8 at his home in Riverside.

 He was born in Los Angeles on May 24, 1954 and was ordained a Permanent Deacon by Bishop Gerald Barnes on Nov. 6, 2010 and served at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, Riverside.

 Fr. Louis Nicholas Marx was called to his rest on April 13 as he quietly prayed in the sanctuary of San Secondo d’Asti church in Guasti.

 Father Bob Erickson and Father Bob Miller, two diocesan priests who left lasting legacies in parish and diocesan ministries, passed away on Oct. 27 and Nov. 1, respectively.

 Father Jose Maria Cima and Father Joe Felker arrived in the Diocese of San Bernardino within a few years of each other, transplanted from other parts of the country and the world. They would go on to lead several parishes in the Diocese, including two in the city of Redlands during the same time period.

PERRIS—Josemari “Joe” Manahan, a teacher at St. James School in Perris and a music minister known throughout the Diocese, was called to eternal rest on Aug. 31 after he died from injuries suffered in an auto accident.

 Archbishop John Quinn, a strong and compassionate voice of leadership in the U.S. Church who traced his roots to the Diocese of San Bernardino, passed away on June 22 at the age of 88.
