BIG BEAR LAKE—Youth leaders gathered at Sa Ha Le Lodge in Big Bear Lake for the 2012 Youth Christian Leadership Training retreat June 25-29. Youth representing parishes throughout the diocese were given the tools to be leaders at their parishes and communities through the activities and events of the weeklong retreat.

ALTA LOMA—St. Peter and St. Paul Catholic School has been recognized as a Full Candidate for Western Catholic Educational Association (WCEA) Accreditation.  On a recent visit from the Brother William Carriere, WCEA Executive Director, St. Peter and St. Paul School was commended for their work on Initial Accreditation Candidacy.   This recognition is significant as the school proceeded to Full Candidacy without further review until the first accreditation visit in the Spring of 2015.  The leadership team, faculty and staff are proud to join our other schools in this very prestigious distinction.

REDLANDS—When Net Ministries decided to discontinue its Discipleship Week retreat in Redlands, local youth ministry leaders rallied to offer a similar program under the name Awaken.

 About 100 youth participated in the retreat that took place at the University of Redlands June 26-29. The Awaken retreat drew youth from the Diocese of San Bernardino, Diocese of Orange and the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.

UPLAND—St. Anthony parish in Upland has received permission to establish a new preschool, making it the fourth new preschool program established in the diocese in the past five years. 

 The diocesan Education and Welfare Corporation Board approved the new preschool proposal on May 31 after an independently-conducted feasibility study concluded there was sufficient demand for one.

RIVERSIDE—Earlier in the year, the Knights of Columbus, Monsignor Flanagan Fourth Degree Assembly 0059, Riverside, conducted its annual Patriotic Essay Contest for seventh and eighth grade students in the parochial schools within its jurisdiction of Riverside, Corona, Norco and Eastvale.
