CHINO HILLS—Walking along to the sound of drums, the crowd took their places behind an image of the Santo Niño de Cebu raised on a platform covered with roses. Parishioners at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, Chino Hills processed from the church entrance into the parking lot.

CORONA—Members of St. Mary Magdalene Parish, Corona filled the church beyond its capacity to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the parish’s founding on Oct. 18. 

 Founding members and leaders throughout the parish’s history came to mark the special occasion. In his homily, Bishop Gerald Barnes applauded the community for its strong bonds and invited them to continue working to impact the surrounding community through the good works of the parish community.

CHINO HILLS—The Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary (SS.CC) will end its leadership of St. Paul the Apostle parish in Chino Hills after 28 years, effective January 2015.

 When the parish was established in 1986, then diocesan Bishop Phillip Straling asked the SS.CCs to assume its pastoral care. The Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary are, in fact, the first religious order ever to minister in the Diocese of San Bernardino, going all the way back to San Salvador parish in Colton in the 1840s.
