 Father Jose Maria Cima and Father Joe Felker arrived in the Diocese of San Bernardino within a few years of each other, transplanted from other parts of the country and the world. They would go on to lead several parishes in the Diocese, including two in the city of Redlands during the same time period.

PERRIS—Josemari “Joe” Manahan, a teacher at St. James School in Perris and a music minister known throughout the Diocese, was called to eternal rest on Aug. 31 after he died from injuries suffered in an auto accident.

   Deacon Marlin Filipek was call to his eternal rest on March 9 in Corona.

 He was ordained a deacon on October 2, 1993 and was assigned to St. Mary Magdalene Parish, Corona where he served until he was granted Senior Deacon status in 2008.

 Father Leonard Krzywda, CR, was called to his eternal rest on March 5 in Chicago.

 He professed vows to the Congration of the Resurrection in 1957 and was ordained a priest in St. Louis, Missouri in 1965.

RIVERSIDE—Cathy Thompson, the longest tenured Catholic school principal in the Diocese, was called to eternal rest on September 25. She died of complications from cancer.

 Thompson began at St. Thomas the Apostle School in Riverside as the kindergarten teacher in 1981. Nine years later she became principal and the face of leadership in the school for two-and-a-half decades.
